What causes venephobia?
Like most phobia's, it comes from an experience. I personally have this phobia, and it started for me when we had a lesson in history on the discovery of veins and arteries. We were shown a video that demonstrated the use and limitations of veins, I thought I would be fine but I was soon shown the severity of my condition. The images varied from metal rods being pushed into open veins and stretching them out of the arm, to just simply stopping the flor of blood and watching the vein flatten slightly. If you're unsure of the effect of this phobia, I will explain it to you. While writing this, remembering the images, my stomach as twisted and my wrists are overcome with a strange feeling that I get when I spot the little blue bulges. I sometimes wear bandages to college to hide them from my view, and I have regular panic attacks from people grabbing my wrists. All of this, from one little video - shown on the school curriculum in England for Year 010 students.
