Influenza is a respiratory infectious disease caused by viruses. The upper respiratory system is the body system most affected with symptoms of runny nose, watery eyes, sneezes, coughs, nasal and lung congestion, sore throat and fever. It can also affect the muscles and joints with body and joint aches. It puts the immune system to work to eliminate the viruses which, in turn, impacts the lymphatic system along with the blood components that work with the immune system to neutralize and/or kill infectious agents and remove the invading organisms from the body tissues. Symptoms can vary greatly from person to person and from virus strain to virus strain.
