There are a few things you should do.
Wash twice a day with warm, salt water. Clean around the piercing with a cotton bud. Make sure you wash your hands before doing this! Do this for about two weeks.
Tea Tree oil is very good for healing piercings. Use twice a day around the piercing, applying with a cotton bud. Do this for about two weeks.
And most importantly do NOT keep touching it. People, when they first get it done, allow themselves or their friends to touch it a lot, irritating and infecting the piercing. If you do not leave it alone it wont heal! If you do need to adjust the bar, make sure you thoroughly wash your hands with hot water and soap, and then only touch if for as minimal time as possible.

No, that's wrong. Cartilage takes about a year to heal completely. I had my rook done a month and a half ago and I changed it. And then it got infected:/ Kinda sad. Anyways, my rook also closed in about 10 minutes cause I had to take it out.
