Training to work in a Mental Health Facility varies quite a lot from job to job. There are medical doctors and psychiatrists who have to go to medical school, there are psychologists, there are nurses, there are orderlies, and all of these require different amounts of schooling and training.

At the least, most people will be required to go to some basic training that generally involves a basic briefing on how the facility runs, some common disorders, and some basic self defense (some people have delusions or hallucinations that can cause them to become violent or at least thrash about, even unintentionally). You will learn what the routines are at that particular facility, the rules for the staff and residents, and how to cope with situations that may come up in daily life.
