In a patient experiencing shock, it is common to observe a low blood pressure reading, often characterized by hypotension. Systolic blood pressure may drop below 90 mmHg, while diastolic pressure can also be reduced, leading to a narrowed pulse pressure. Additionally, heart rate may be elevated as the body attempts to compensate for reduced blood flow and oxygen delivery to vital organs.
this means that a blood pressure reading taken previously when the patient was not ill is used as that patients normal measurement.
A sphygmomanometer is a device used to measure blood pressure. A more common name for this device is a blood pressure meter.
Resting at or just below the level of the heart. If raised higher in the air, it will affect the BP reading.
Improper positioning of the patient can effect blood pressure readings. The patient should be sitting upright with elbow slightly bent, resting the arm on a surface that is level with the heart. This will give you the most accurate reading.
Because if their BP is too high, they will start to stress out about it, and if it is too low, they will start to worry.
