Most people would recommend that alcohol is consumed in moderation.
They would get alcohol poisoning, and would need their stomach pumped.
In this experiment, the independent variable would be the amount of alcohol consumed by the participants. Different amounts of alcohol would be administered to different groups to observe the effect on memory.
No... the only thing that would make you fail a breathalyser - is if you have consumed alcohol !
A breathalyser detects the presence of alcohol in the blood. Alcohol gets into the blood when you drink it. The body processes alcohol at a fixed rate (1 unit, that is 10 ml of pure alcohol, an hour). Therefore if you have consumed 6 units, the breathalyser would still detect the presence of alcohol after 5 hours. If you had just consumed 4 units the breathalyser would not detect alcohol after 5 hours.
It takes about 20 minutes for the effect alcohol to be noticeable. But Eating food whilst drinking will slow down the absorption rate. For every 2 or 3 drinks you should have a glass of water. (this will also slow down absorption rate.) Sometimes people will have a greater resistance to alcohol i.e. Someone being way over the driving limit but not be affected at all by the alcohol. I think the more appropriate question would have been; What factors affect alcohol absorption.
Given the same quantity of alcohol consumed by people of the same gender within the same period of time, a larger person's BAC would be lower
That depends on a person's weight, gender, tolerance to alcohol, stomach contents, time period during which time the alcohol is consumed, and other factors.
I have been advised by my GP that it is possible to consume some alcohol while taking By-Mycin, but only if the drug is taken in the morning and the alcohol consumed in the evening. I believe that By-Mycin is an antibiotic and, as with most antibiotics, would have it's ability to perform impaired by the consumption of alcohol. Taking the drug in the morning and alcohol in the evening would give the drugs a reasonable time to have been consumed and circulated by the body before being affected by the alcohol. It is not recommended to take By-Mycin in the evening anyway, so this should fit in nicely with the consumption of alcohol (unless you are an alcoholic).
Absorption spectra are different.
It means the person was very drunk. The number of drinks would depend on how quickly they were consumed, and how long before the test.
The sugar in the water would be consumed by bacteria rather quickly, which would release large amounts of carbon dioxide and possibly alcohol into the ocean.
