A filly enters puberty in the spring because it's brought on by photoperiod, but which spring the enters it in depends on her calender month of birth and her own individual Biology. Usually about 50% start puberty in their first spring, as yearlings, and another 50% in their second spring. It's very rare you'll find an individual entering puberty in her third year.
