High optic nerve pressure is associated with high CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) in the brain. The condition has two names: idiopathic Intercranial hypertension, or Pseudotumor Cerebri.

When the CSF level in the brain spikes, it causes fluid to back up an build up in the optic nerves. Pressure in the optic nerve and in the brain can be decreased with diuretics(such as Diamox). Pressure in the brain can be relieved by spinal taps, or a surgical procedure where a shunt is inserted into the brain. The fluid in the optic nerves can be decreased by a surgical procedure called Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration.
