An initial counseling session in a new senior-junior relationship should be conducted as soon as possible after the relationship is established, ideally within the first few weeks. This session serves to clarify expectations, establish communication norms, and build rapport between the senior and junior members. It sets a foundation for open dialogue, allowing both parties to discuss goals, challenges, and any immediate concerns. Promptly addressing these elements fosters a supportive and productive working relationship.
In the beginning of the relationship between the Counselor and Client, Couple, Group, or Family it is the initial exchange among the parties for who is going to control the counseling or therapeutic exchange. Often, very early on, even with the first contact over the telephone or in the waiting room the client(s) will attempt to take control of or "battle" for the nature of the counseling exchange. In general, the client(s) will attempt to dominate the counselor/therapist in an attempt to unconsciously "sabotage" the relationship so they can continue to assert the behavior that they need to address by wresting control from the counselor/therapist. In most cases, if the counselor/therapist doesn't "fight" and win for the manner in which the counseling/therapeutic relationship is to be "structured" or conducted, any further exchanges between the counselor/client will be forfeited in the favor of the client. This process then allows them to continue their maladaptive behavior because it attenuates the efficacy of the counselor/therapist. If this occurs, it is likely that the counseling/therapeutic relationship will prove to be unsuccessful, unless the counselor/therapist can "take back" dominance or control of the helping relationship.
The marriage counselor then works with the couple to help them understand that, in most cases, both partners are contributing to problems in the relationship.

The relationship between starting length and initial velocity of shortening is typically an inverse relationship. This means that as the starting length increases, the initial velocity of shortening decreases. This relationship is governed by the length-tension relationship of muscle fibers.
The relationship between the initial concentration (c1) and initial volume (v1) in a chemical reaction is that they are inversely proportional. This means that as the initial concentration increases, the initial volume decreases, and vice versa. This relationship is described by the formula c1v1 constant.

In the kinematic equations for distance, the relationship between initial velocity, acceleration, and time is that the distance traveled is determined by the initial velocity, the acceleration, and the time taken to travel that distance. The equations show how these factors interact to calculate the distance an object moves.
