It could. But when teenagers are cutting they do so out of another view, self-punishment, or maybe confirmation, since the pain and blood are both real, and it proves they are -real- and thus worthy people. People who cut often have either deep emotional and/or mental problems, or they crave attention. The second group may be satisfied with rubbing erasers on their arms if it gets people's attention. The first group might enjoy the sensation of the hairs the eraser pulls out of your arm when you rub it past it. But replicating 'the cutting motion' but using an eraser instead doesn't change the base problems, the teens aren't addicted to making a cutting motion, nor to harming their arms. Their problem lies elsewhere.

yes, it can be addictive. Take it from an actual cutting addict. Being addicted to cutting yourself can be just as much as an addiction to smoking and drugs. Drugs release chemicals which make the body feel "good" when you cut, the body will release these endorphins which soothe the body and give you a feeling of euphoria and people become addicted to the feeling.
Emotional release refers to the process of experiencing and expressing pent-up emotions in a healthy way. This can involve crying, talking about feelings, journaling, or engaging in physical activities to release emotional tension. Emotional release is important for mental and emotional well-being and can help individuals process and move through difficult emotions.

People may experience an adrenaline rush from cutting due to the body's natural fight-or-flight response. Engaging in self-harm can trigger a release of adrenaline and endorphins, leading to a temporary feeling of relief or euphoria. This response can create a cycle where individuals seek out the behavior for the emotional and physiological high it provides, despite the harmful consequences. Ultimately, it reflects a coping mechanism for underlying emotional pain or distress.
