Among the many famous people with PD, one who has greatly increased the public awareness of the disease is the actor Michael J. Fox. Fox was diagnosed in 1991 when he was 30, but kept his condition secret from the public for seven years.[87] He has written two autobiographic books in which his fight against the disease plays a major role,[88] and appeared before the United States Congress without medication to illustrate the effects of the disease.
Michael J. Fox has Parkinson's disease, a neurological disorder that affects movement and can cause symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 and has been an advocate for research and awareness of the condition.
he takes medication that helps reduce his movement. It works awesomely!
no those symptoms are not standard/for someone with parkinsons. Parkinsons is a disease that is very hard to understand/the doctors still do as much research as they can. I pray they will on day have a cure but there sure trying to find a cure for Parkinson's suffers. There will be a cure one day in my generation.
Even though you (hopefully) know this, he was in actor in the 80's/90's (though, in the 70's as a teenager, he starred in a Canadian TV show called Leo & Me, but he didn't get famous until Family Ties)But he had to retire acting in 2001 because of Parkinson's disease (he was actually diagnosed with it in 1991, but his doctor said he could continue acting for another 10 years, so he did until the time came)So today, he continues with his foundation, the Michael J. Fox Foundation - which is to raise research money for Parkinson's disease, so a cure can be found.
Michael J. Fox is still alive and well, considering that he has Parkinson's Disease.
There are several charities that donate to the study of Parkinson's Disease, including the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, the Parkinson's Foundation, and the American Parkinson Disease Association. These organizations fund research, provide support services, and raise awareness about Parkinson's Disease. Donations to these charities help advance scientific understanding of the disease and improve quality of life for individuals living with Parkinson's.
