The food may be dry, the bite too large or you may have been talking while trying to swallow. If it is a regular instance, keep a diary of what you were trying to eat, the time and the absence or presence of hiccups. It should help you narrow down the issue. If it doesn't give you a hint, take the diary to your doctor visit.
