It depends on where someone may have contracted the virus.

i.e. mouth, lips, genitals ...

That will be the most likely place for the the virus to show up in a rash, bumps, blisters. It will be irritating and itchy.

It usually starts with a warning (prodrome stage), where you would feel symptoms like itching, burning and or tingling symptoms aroud the affected area. With an initial break out of genital herpes there can also be swelling, flu like symptoms and burning pain when you urinate.

But some people can contract herpes and never have any signs or symptoms of it. If you think you could have herpes then it's best to see a doctor and get tested for it.
