In the UK: Smoking is now banned in ALL enclosed public spaces (which usually includes areas like the platforms of railway stations), bars, pubs & restaurants (there are no exceptions, not even for private "members only" clubs, but how well this is policed is debatable!), and in all workplaces - including vehicles used for business purposes. Generally, however, you can smoke outdoors (unless specific restrictions are in place for designated areas - eg areas surrounding schools, & many hospitals), and on/ in your own property: there are, however, some who're campaigning to outlaw smoking in private households where minors live. Smoking is allowed in prisons - in designated areas, and also in some psychiatric institutions.
