The word 'anger' derives from what is known as Middle English (the English spoken between 1150 and 1470 A.D.

It came to that language from Norse. The related Norse words 'angr' (which meant 'grief') and 'angra' (which meant 'vex') were the sources of our words 'anger' and 'angry'.
