Where does diptheria start?

Diphtheria is infection of the upper respiratory tract starting as a sore throat . The infection is caused by corynebacterium diphtheriae and gives rise to sore throat, cough, fever and respiratory difficulty due to formation of a membrane in the throat and pharynx.
