The sensory (afferent) neuron has a cell body located in the posterior root ganglion of the spinal nerve. This neuron carries sensory information from the peripheral receptors to the central nervous system.

Sensory neurons are responsible for sending information to the spinal cord. These neurons transmit signals from sensory receptors in the body to the spinal cord, which then relays the information to the brain for processing.
First order sensory neurons begin in the receptor, travel to dorsal/posterior gray horn of the spinal cord where they synapse with the second order sensory neurons.
Spinal nerves are said to be mixes because their posterior roots contain sensory axons and their anterior roots contain motor axons.
The spinal cord is posterior to the sternum.
