This is known as exophthalmia a common symptom of Grave's disease.
Lenz Micropthalmia Syndrome is the abnormal development of the eyes. Lenz is only found in males, and can affect only one of both of the eyes. People who have Lenz were born either with very small eyeballs, or weren't born with eyeballs at all.
Grave's disease is an autoimmune dysfunction of the thyroid glands. It's signs and symptoms are usually much the same as hyperthyroidism and include a condition known as 'bug eyes' where the eyeballs protrude from their sockets.
