The first type of Diabetes, Type 1 diabetes (formerly called juvenile diabetes), is usually first recognized in children or adolescents and is generally not preventable. In this type of diabetes, the pancreas stops producing insulin or produces very little. This is the most serious type and requires daily insulin treatment for life to be sustained. About 10% of people with diabetes have this type.
A type of Diabetes Mellitus, Type 1 or Juvenile Diabetes often begins in childhood and is characterized by an inability of the pancreas to make insulin. This is called insulin dependent Diabetes because people with this condition must take daily injections of insulin.
Children exposed to diabetes in the womb have a much greater likelihood of becoming obese during childhood and adolescence and for also developing type 2 diabetes later on in their life.

Diabetes can be classified into four different types depending upon the cause and symptoms of diabetes. 1. Type 1 Diabetes also referred to as juvenile diabetes is the result of the body's failure to produce insulin. Sometimes referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes because insulin must be supplied to the body daily. 2. Type 2 Diabetes results from insulin resistance when the body is unable to properly use insulin combined with an insulin deficiency 3. Gestational Diabetes which affects expectant mothers, usually during later pregnancy. 4. Pre-Diabetes occurs when blood glucose levels are elevated above normal but are not high enough for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. I would suggest going for Riverview Medical Center's Diabetes Management Program that has been granted national recognition from the American Diabetes Association. They also have a helpline 732-530-2555. Call them to set up your initial appointment and address any questions that you may have.

It is often caused by an autoimmune condition that begins in childhood but may also develop slowly later in life (called latent autoimmune diabetes). It is not lifestyle related, as far as we know.
Type I diabetes, sometimes called juvenile diabetes, begins most commonly in childhood or adolescence. In this form of diabetes, the body produces little or no insulin. It is characterized by a sudden onset and occurs more frequently in populations descended from Northern European countries (Finland, Scotland, Scandinavia) than in those from Southern European countries, the Middle East, or Asia. In the United States, approximately three people in 1,000 develop Type I diabetes. This form is also called insulin-dependent diabetes because people who develop this type need to have daily injections of insulin.Symptoms include frequent urination, lethargy, excessive thirst, and hunger. The treatment includes changes in diet, oral medications, and in some cases, daily injections of insulin.
