Poliomyelitis Vaccine. I don't think they're are any other names to it than that and the "Polio Vaccine" It can be done by OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine) or through inoculation (Dead Polio Virus is injected into your body). This immunization is known to have side effects.
The polio vaccine was tested using human trials to see if it would work and to see if it would cause any problems.
The polio vaccine was first tested in 1952 and marketed in 1955.The telephone was invented in 1876.
In the 1950s, Salk developed the first polio vaccine, an injection. In 1962, Sabin developed the oral polio vaccine, taken by mouth, and still used, at present.
The first polio vaccine was created in 1952 by Jonas Salk at the University of Pittsburgh. It required years of practice and tweaking to get the vaccine to the point of effectiveness it has today.
Jonas Salk: Injectable vaccine first tested on poliomyelitis in 1952 successfully and known globally on April 12, 1955. Albert Sabin: Oral vaccine first tested 1957 and licensed in 1962.
The oral polio vaccine was developed by Dr. Albert Sabin in the early 1960s, with its widespread use beginning in 1962. Unlike the earlier injected vaccine created by Dr. Jonas Salk, Sabin's oral vaccine used live attenuated virus and was easier to administer, contributing significantly to polio eradication efforts worldwide.
a vaccine that stops you getting polio!
I was working as a Pharmacist at Wayne Apothecaries, a Detroit Professional Pharmacy, on the date that Poliomyelitis Vaccine first because available. That was April 18, 1952. So it was on that date or shortly thereafter that the first shot for Polio was given on the East side of Detroit.
Two polio vaccines are used throughout the world to combat poliomyelitis (or polio). The first was developed by Jonas Salk and first tested in 1952. Announced to the world by Salk on April 12, 1955, it consists of an injected dose of inactivated (dead) poliovirus. An oral vaccine was developed by Albert Sabin using attenuated poliovirus. Human trials of Sabin's vaccine began in 1957 and it was licensed in 1962. Source: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aso/databank/entries/dm52sa.html
In 1947, the polio vaccine was not yet available for public use; the first effective polio vaccine, developed by Jonas Salk, was introduced in 1955. However, there were experimental vaccines being tested before then. There were concerns about vaccine contamination in later years, notably in the 1950s, when some batches of the Salk vaccine were found to be contaminated with live poliovirus, leading to cases of vaccine-derived poliovirus infections.
Albert Sabin founded the oral polio vaccine and the vaccine was licensed in 1962.
