Galileo is claimed to have gone blind through staring at the sun while investigating sun-spots. As with all these sorts of claim there are detractors who who prefer to think it an urban myth.
It is not safe to stare at the sun because it can blind you. In severe cases, it can burn or damage your retina. This could cause a blind spot in your eye.
It is too bright for your eye's. You can go blind.
Well yes if you have a injury or was born with it as well as you stare into the sun a long time but of course not everyone is blind.
People can, and do go blind, if they stare at the sun too long, including babies. Most are smart enough to look away or to shut their eyelids.
If totaly blind, then no. If partially or nearly blind it will probably make them totally blind.
Do not stare at the sun, you may damage your eyes or become blind. If the day is cloudy, it is possible to stare at the sun through a heavy filter of clouds, but even then, it's not really a good idea.

One thing you should do is pass your story on to other people, andexplain the reason why they should never stare directly at the sun.
STARe at the sun
If a telescope is facing the sun it is being used to observe the sun (our local star). However, solar telescopes are SPECIAL and have a filter in them to block the sunlight down to a safe level. NOTE. If you stare at the sun or look at the sun through binoculars or a telescope the strength of the sunlight WILL BLIND YOU PERMANENTLY.
