Most diseases are named for the first person, or for the most notable or well known person to be diagnosed with this disease, or for the Doctor Who first identified it. So "Lou Gehrig's Disease", in the USA, was named for the famous Baseball player who suffered it. In Britain, it is called "Motor Neuron Disease", and this is the same thing that Stephen Hawking has.
Alzheimer's Disease was named for Dr. Alois Alzheimer, the German psychiatrist who first diagnosed and described it.
Alzheimers is a type of dementia so you can not really compare the two. However alzheimers is a very agressive disease so therefore i would consider it to be the worst of the two.
