From what I understand that chemicals mess with the absorption of minerals normally and that has something to do with it. But typically people who are smokers, don't take the best care of themselves.
Smokers.
You will obtain smokers lung most likely by being a habitual smoker. Sometimes people who are constantly around second hand smoke can get it too. Some jobs that deal with smoke, such as a firefighter are also prone to this.
Secondhand smokers.
Most likely some sort of mouth cancer. Buy, I smoke cigars as well as a pipe. In the end, I would much rather get reconstructive mouth surgery than die from lung cancer.
That would be the most ignorant imaginable incentive to smoke.

In the past it was mostly men until advertisers promoted the idea of women smoking. Now, both genders are about equally likely to smoke. What matters most is the age. Today, teens to adults are most likely to smoke.
