Why are hobbies important?

The children, who have an avid hobby or interest they are passionate about are more likely to spend their money, when they have their own stash of it, on that hobby or collection and not on drugs or other potentially harmful choices. If your kids are busy after school at dance class, soccer practice, rock collecting or any other hobby or interest they find engaging, they won't have time to hang with the kids who have nothing better to do than experiment with drugs, gangs, alcohol or whatever else could get them into serious trouble. If your kids are intense about collecting paper clips, toe nail clippings or in love with little league, then encourage them ... help them develop their passion for a positive accomplishment. Teach them how great it can be to involve themselves in something that gives them a sense of accomplishment and pride.

Hobbies are important so you don't get bored and you have something you like to do

There are many reasons for hobbies. You can pursue an interest that you enjoy like drawing, painting, etc. As an added bonus you may be able to turn a hobby into a business latter. For many people their hobby is enjoyable. It can also have a social aspect as there are many clubs and associations and even competitions for different hobbies. It can be a great way to meet people who have similar interests. If you are a parent, hobbies may be a way to spend quality time with your children and allow you to teach them life skills and problem solving skills in a non-lecturing environment. Many spouses also enjoy sharing hobbies together. Some hobbies are good for relaxing and unwinding after a long day and others just give you time to think or express your creative passion. For example, learning to paint can be an enjoyable way to learn something new, help you get outside if you are painting landscapes for example and then display your work as a way to start a conversation about your hobby. I use my hobby as a conversation topic quite often and people find it interesting it seems. One thing you may want to consider is to find a hobby where you can help other people as this brings additional benefits and meaning to life. Even answering questions here on Answers.com may be considered a hobby even and definitely is a good way to help other people who are looking for help. Hobbies are usually something you pursue after you are comfortable with you level of "success" and you have some spare time.
