Are you asking about holes? There are any number of these throughout the boney skeleton which allow nerves and blood vessels to come and go to the body and the nervous system. A "pinched nerve" is called this because these openings at times become somewhat filled with bone and the nerve is damaged (pinched) and can be very painful and can cause muscle harm. These openings can be widened through surgery.
