osteopathy
There are no diseases that can be "cured" by osteopathy treatments, however, there are many ailments that can benefit from the treatment by an Osteopath. Some problems, such as low back pain, ankle injuries, and asthma may improve.
The cost for osteopathic treatment depends on the practice jurisdiction. In Europe, Canada, USA, the Caribbean, Australia & the New Zealand; manual osteopaths generally charge $80 to $120 per treatment session. In Asia, Africa, & Latin America; the treatment fee is generally $10 to $80 per session. Manual osteopathy treatment sessions generally last 30 to 60 minutes.
"To understand cranial osteopathy it is necessary to understand osteopathy itself. As with visceral osteopathy, the term refers to an aspect of osteopathy, not to a separate modality." http://www.osteohome.com/articles/Cranial%20Osteopathy.pdf
Manual osteopathy is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal and joints complaints. Although manual osteopathy has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with manual osteopathy, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following manual osteopathy treatment, but some may experience mild soreness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise or massage. Current literature shows that minor discomfort or soreness following soft tissue therapy typically fades within 24 hours. It is important for patients to understand the risks associated with some of the most common treatments for musculoskeletal pain -- prescription and over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) -- as these treatments may carry risks significantly greater than those of manual osteopathy treatment. According to a study from the American Journal of Gastroenterology, approximately one-third of all hospitalizations and deaths related to gastrointestinal bleeding can be attributed to the use of aspirin or NSAID painkillers like ibuprofen.
Osteopathy considers the total mind/body instead of focusing on a symptoms and treating it. Osteopathy generally looks further into the matter and explores the root causes of illness and disease, including stress, anxiety and the like. Osteopathy also considers the alignment of the skeleton and makes adjustment so that the body as a whole can function in a better, healthier way.
London School of Osteopathy was created in 1948.
