Yes, a market umbrella can be a great help in preventing sunburn. Because sunburn is caused by exposure to the sun, a person can prevent sunburn by reducing this exposure. Sitting under a market umbrella will limit only sun exposure--not your sense of adventure!

Since sunburn is a first degree burn you should first cool off the burn under cool water or with an ice pack. Then you can apply burn gel or aloe.
Being out under the sun's rays with exposed skin can result in a sunburn. Keeping your skin covered with clothing and sunscreen will help prevent burns. Even on cloudy days you can get burnt, so use sunscreen. And wear sunglasses to protect your eyes!

It is not an element but a compound, zinc oxide (ZnO), that is put in a cream to protect skin from sunburn. This white powder will, when mixed into a "carrier" and applied as a covering, block the sun's rays and prevent exposure to the skin under the coating.

Er no. But you may get a sunburn. Some people can get a serous sunburn even with a short duration in the sun (like me). Excessive exposure to the sun, especially at a young age can increase a person's risk of developing skin cancer, or some other nasty condition. It is wise to use a sunblock before going out under the sun to minimize the UV exposure. Use sunglasses too(if sunburn is more), as exposure UV rays can cause cataracts later in life.
