Fear, ignorance and religion. Aids was a New disease and it was presented in such a way as to make its presence particularly frightening. In addition to this a serious epidemic of the disease broke out among the homosexual community, part of society that was already used to suffering from discrimination. To make maters worse sections of the religious community were calling this a punishment from God further vilifying even Innocent children that were caught with this disease.
