It's called charm, deception and manipulation, only the victim can see the real "person". Walk away while you can, things don't get better, they get worse. From my own personal experience, my ex was like that. Remember they want to be idolized not just by you but by friend relations as well. It would be my guess the know which boundaries they can break and get away with. Friends are less likely to put up with the same abuse as someone who is in love with them would.
