People that do this to others are very very jealous individuals and need an outlet to make themselves look and feel better. They are upset at the person they are targeting and so they make other people think their target is all the negative things that they themselves are, its called self projection. They project their own short comings and insecurities on other people they know are better than them because they are simply envious that they cant be as good as their target, so they attempt to lower their image status or make them act out so they can have a reason to accuse them of being bad, when they know their target really isnt bad at all, they are.
Jealousy will make people do some outrageous things, but that's how insecure people are, their energy vampires and will try to suck their victim dry because they just can't stand to have others being better than them or getting credit for what they suck at.
