If we assume that most bone fractures occur due to someone falling over, the tendency is to try to stop yourself falling by flinging out your arms in front of you. Therefore, fingers, arms, and mainly wrists will strike the ground first. Though, as my wife recently broke her leg just above the ankle when she stumbled down the last four or five steps on the stairs, legs can easily be broken too! Children tend to suffer less from fractures as their bones are not yet calcified and are not as brittle as an adult's bones - they are also closer to the ground and have less distance to fall!
