because the heart is the second most important muscle/organ in the body, it is needed to move blood around your body, if it stops/the blood doesn't move and will clot over time, its the same as why the brain is protected by the skull, it's a vital part of you and is very fragile

The spinal cord is made up of bundles of nerve fibers. It runs down from the brain through a canal in the center of the bones of the spine. These bones protect the spinal cord. Like the brain, the spinal cord is covered by the meninges and cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid.

Our spinal cord is somewhat like 'S', so if we do some exercise that straches our spinal cord , so it is possible gaining 2-3 inches height. Brain power also can work here.
