People have all sorts of phobias. The trouble is that phobias are self reinforcing and irrational and usually caused by an event (in your case involving a lizard) early in life. They will not improve unless you do something to address them.
It is possible to overcome nearly all phobias by using what is called exposure therapy (where you gradually expose yourself to what causes the phobia and learn to control your feelings - it takes time). However, this should only be undertaken under the guidance of someone qualified to provide this therapy.
