Meiosis is the process of making a cell that has the same number of chromosomes as the parents. In order to keep the same number, they each make gametes which have half their own number of chromosomes. When one gamete, sperm, fertilizes the other gamete, the egg, they join their number of chromosomes together to make an offspring with the same number as the parents have. If they did not do this by meiosis, then very soon, we would have animals which huge numbers of chromosomes.

In which structure or organs does meiosis formation of male gametes and or female gametes occur in animals?

Meiosis formation of male gametes (sperm) occurs in the testes of animals, while meiosis formation of female gametes (eggs) occurs in the ovaries. These structures are specialized for the production and maturation of sex cells through the process of meiosis.

What occurs only in the formation of gametes.?

Meiosis

What is Meiosis the basis for?

genetic recombination and formation of gametes

What process are gametes produced through?

The Nuclear process that Gametes are formed is called Gametogenesis.

What Process results in the formation of gametes?

Gametes are produced by a type of cell division called meiosis. Meiosis results in four daughter cells each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell.

How are oogenesis and spermatogenesis similar?

Oogenesis is the formation of the ovum, and spermatogenesis is the formation of the sperm. These two processes are similar as they are both formed by meiosis, (reduction division). Meiosis is the process of cell division where one mother cell will create four daughter cells with half the amount of genetic information. Or in other words, oogenesis and spermatogenesis are creating gametes.

Unlike mitosis meiosis results in the formation of what sort of cells?

Meiosis results in the formation of haploid cells, which have half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. This process is important for sexual reproduction, as it produces gametes (sperm and egg cells) with genetic diversity.

What type of cells make gametes by meiosis?

Germ cells, specifically spermatocytes in males and oocytes in females, undergo meiosis to produce gametes (sperm and egg). Meiosis is a specialized type of cell division that results in the formation of genetically unique haploid gametes.

Which statement is FALSE concerning gametes produced by meiosis?

The statement that is FALSE concerning gametes produced by meiosis is that they are genetically identical to the parent cell. Meiosis results in the formation of haploid gametes with genetic variation due to crossing over and independent assortment of chromosomes during the process.

Coud the formation of a zygote occur during meiosis?

Meiosis generates gametes (sperm and eggs cells). The combination of the gametes makes the zygotes. So, the process meiosis produces only half of a zygote.

In which process do gametes divide?

Gametes divide during the process of meiosis. Meiosis is a type of cell division that produces reproductive cells with half the number of chromosomes as the original cell, resulting in the formation of gametes (sperm and egg cells).

What process occurs only in the information of gametes?

During the formation of gametes - a process called gametogenesis - meiosis is a process which only occurs during this period. Meiosis is a special type of cell division necessary for sexual reproduction.
