Why does your body clench up sometimes?

There could be a number of reasons:

1) infection - (ie. Clostridium tetani - causes lock jaw)

2) overuse - muscle strain

3) stress - the body assumes a more flexed posture

4) mineral deficiencies - low calcium can cause tetany (muscle spasms)

5) hormonal - parathyroid dysfunction
