Typically, that sort of thing happens as a result of a recent injury, although that isn't the only scenario. Look for these changes: * cooling of the arm * numbness * Discoloration -- white or purple * inability to detect pulse distal (downstream) of the injury site, e.g. brachial, ulnar or radial pulses. If any of those turn out to be real, call your doctor or proceed to an ER. Impeded blood flow is serious. Otherwise, give a call to your doc. Failing occluded circulation, I'd look for bruising and strains, inflamation as the result of trauma or arthropod bite, or even sunburn to see if those are the cause of that sensation (but not that actual effect).
