Cholera is spread by sewage-tainted drinking water. Cholera can become a problem anyplace that basic sanitary services cannot be provided. Disaster zones, war zones, wilderness areas; anything that interrupts the handling of sewage and the supply of clean drinking water can spread cholera.
In developing countries you have many asymptomatic carriers of cholera to spread the same. In developed countries, undercooked sea food is usually the source of cholera.
Cholera is still around and is extremely deadly if it is not taken care of properly. The cure for cholera is water, which is awesome, but in regions where cholera outbreaks occur, it may be hard to find clean water to drink.

Cholera is not eradicated from the India. It is not possible to eradicate the cholera from India, in near future. Cholera is maintained in the community with many subclinical cases. Some of the people develop the severe form of cholera. With the majority people living in the villages and slums, they do not have access to good medical care. So many people die of dehydration, in isolated incidences.
