Hi it could be any number of things.... It depends on age, severity, and all around appearance. If she is having severe sore throats or swollen tonsils, it could be strep. If she has a runny nose, and she feels mucous running down the back of her throat, it could be Post Nasal Drip. Post Nasal Drip, is when your sinuses block regular passage ways to remove fluid or mucous. So it drips down the throat, if it is infected it will cause a mild to severe rash on the back of her throat. Some simple and natural ways to get rid of it is, to drink hot green tea, gargle hot salt water, use a neti pot, and drink plenty of warm fluids, make sure she doesn't drink any milk or thick fluid. If she does it makes the mucous more thick and makes it harder to swallow. If it gets worse I recommend you see her doctor, let her get a throat culture or some tests. Hope it helped.

Can children get a scarlet fever rash without having strep throat?

Yes, ... my son recently approached me one night with a red, rough rash that resembled tiny little bumps all over his chest and his back. The rash hadn't yet spread to the lower abomen and back, but we went to the ER to get checked out. He did not have a fever, his throat was red - according to the Dr., and he maybe had a slight cough, but nothing really persistent. Definietly nothing that would have me concerned that he might have strep throat...His throat culture for strep came back negative, but the Dr. placed him on antibotics for ten days...the rash cleared up in around two days, and it never spread further....so I am still questioning whether or not this was due to strep throat, but it makes sense. They called it a "Scarletina" rash. - from strep. They also said even though a culture comes back negative, you can't always trust the results. My son is fine now, and no more rash!
