Why is underwear white?

Underwear comes in a wide range of colours, not just white. Although white underwear is recommended as with fewer dyes it's less likely to cause irritation and white allows you to better watch for changes in the colour of your vaginal discharge to spot health problems.

The vagina starts to produce discharge as a girl enters puberty as this is how the body helps to keep the vagina clean and healthy in order to protect fertility. Discharge helps keep the vagina healthy by flushing out dead cells, maintaining healthy pH, and keeping vaginal tissues lubricated. Discharge changes with hormonal changes so may be thicker and white towards the end of the menstrual cycle, but white discharge can also be an indication of a yeast infection if it's thick or cottage-cheese like.
