Nose has a few layers of filter. The hair in the nose filters out large durst or particle. And there's a layer of mucus membrane that binds to finer particle to prevent it from entering the lung. Air also get moisture in the nasal cavity prior to entering the lung. Besides that, breathing through your mouth can cause dry mouth, dry lips, and dry throat.
