Why should you cover your mouth while sneezing?

when something is stuck in your windpipe, you cough. it a sort of an involuntary action..in you respiratory tract, u have bacteria which are trapped by the mucus. now when this mucus gets stuck, u cough to get it out so technically i wud contain bacteria and when u cough the particles in ur cough travel abt 10 meters far so anyone in that range inhaling air wud anhale the bacteria containing particles u coughed out..so basically u cover ur mouth so the bacteria cannot travel that far and cause infections in others...it doesnt benifit u anyhow..it for the safety of others

Your taught this as a kid. If you cover your sneeze with your elbow instead of your hand germs won't be transmitted onto everything you touch... most importantly things like rubbing your nose... eyes... and mouth. You cover mouth because when you sneeze air born germs fly out of your mouth like a volcano spewing and if you have a cold your can easily get someone else sick.

The respiratory droplets can contain viruses or other germs that can then infect other people. Wash your hands after using the tissue to trap the droplets and get some tissues to have with you in case it happens again.

When you cover your mouth during a sneeze, you prevent the thousands of droplets that blast out of your mouth from flying everywhere. Even though you sneeze because somethings in your nose, most of the air and droplets that fly out come from your mouth.

When most people sneeze, lots of air and sometimes spit comes out of their mouths. If they sneeze, they could be sick, the air could get to someones face and they would get sick. And, If you ask me, I'd rather cover my mouth than spit on everything and everyone

When you sneeze you spray droplets of viruses and bacteria into the air. The covering of the nose is an attempt to stop the droplets of stuff getting sprayed in the air. It is also viewed as a common *curtsy to cover your nose when you sneeze.

-Covering your mouth is more important though. That's because most, if not all, of the droplets that come out when you sneeze are from your mouth.
