There are some individuals who have medical issues that require them to be in a hospital for dental procedures. This is also true for patients who are mentally unable to tolerate dental work without being put to sleep. This does not mean that a hospital will routinely do dental procedures for patients who happened to be in the hospital for medical reasons unrelated to dentistry. Can they? Yes. Will they? that's another question. ;) Wisdom teeth can be removed in hospitals by dentists in a few cases yes.

no, not the main part of the hospital. i just got mine removed yesterday and i went to this different branch. it was an oral surgery place that looks just like a dentists office.

This can be done as an outpatient procedure at some dentists offices. It may require sodium pentothal or nitrous oxide for the patient during this simple operation - takes about 30 minutes. You will then eat soup for a few days.

A number of factors need to be considered before extracting wisdom teeth.

Are the teeth causing pain or likely to cause pain in the future?

Are the wisdom teeth decayed, fractured, or impacted?

Are the wisdom teeth compromising or causing damage to other teeth or oral tissues?

If the wisdom teeth remain, is it likely they will complicate other procedures such as orthodontics or crown placements?

Is the patient young enough and healthy enough to undergo the surgery?

Does the likely benefit of extracting the wisdom teeth outweigh the potential harm or complications of extractions?

If any or all of these questions are answered 'yes' then extractions are usually indicated.

Most people do not have enough room in their jaws for the wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth are almost never necessary for proper chewing or attractive appearance.

Wisdom teeth are often very difficult to adequately clean.

On the flip side, there are other questions:

Are there any contraindications (prohibitions) in the patient's medical, mental, emotional, or familial status?

Does the patient, primary caregiver, or guardian withhold their consent?

If these questions are answered 'yes' then extraction is not proper.

Unless you have some underlying medical condition that puts you at risk for severe complications, there is no reason to go into a hospital for wisdom teeth removal. Discuss your medical history in depth with your dentist or oral surgeon. They will know what the proper course of action is. Follow their advice.

Yes. I didn't get all of mine taken out (Just 1) two years ago.

Now, no joke, I just had surgery today removing my remaining 3 wisdom teeth (all infected) and another molar which was infected by the wisdom tooth next to it. One of the wisdom teeth had developed a cyst, all of them were impacted, and the bacterial infection was literally eating my jaw bone. If I would have waited another month I wouldn't have teeth anymore.

An oral surgeon may be recommended if there you are a high risk patient however in most cases a dentist can and will remove wisdom teeth.

no they will not. i was just there about a week ago cuz i don't have insurance and they told me to get lost. that's exactly what they said.. so im gonna try an sue them..

Yes. My parents were in the hospital with general anesthesia.

Not normally, they are a natural part of the adult mouth, most people have them with no problems. However, if there is a problem with them then they may need to be removed.
