probably because then they are not so worried about getting fat or anything because everyone else is also eating around them. but i always hated eating together as a family as a kid
An eating disorder that usually occurs in adolescent girls is anorexia (not eating enough food). In other cases, it can be bulimia (eating large amounts of food and then vomiting or taking laxatives).
Family and friends (all relationships, really) play a large role in a person's eating disroder. It can cause an eating disorder or cause it to be worse, but, on the other hand, support can help a person with an eating disroder to recover.
Because this is a medical issue, the first person to ask is your family doctor. If they can not help you directly, they will send you to a person who can determine if you have an eating disorder and help you if you do.
You (presumably a friend of family member) do not treat someone who has an eating disorder. You cannot simply talk somebody out of a mental or emotional disorder. Some treatment options include individual, group, &/or family psychotherapy, medical care & monitoring, nutritional counseling, & medications.
Tell your family they will help you! Otherwise I would look online about how to treat this problem.
This is believed to be very true. But it is unknown whether its because of genetics or strong influence from the family member/members who have the ed.
In some families, a daughter's eating disorder serves as a distraction from marital discord or other family tensions
It depends... Why do they think you have an eating disorder? Have you been loosing wheight lately? If you lost wheight and are under your ideal wheight, there is something wrong with your diet or with your organism and you should seek medical help. If you just lost a little wheight and think your family is being paranoid about it, talk openly to them, show articles explaining what is an eating disorder... I am sure they would understand. Just be sincere to yourself and opened to recognize if you have any kind of problem... Eating disorders can be deadly if not treated!
no one is immune to getting an eating disorder. men and women are both affected eating disorders are normally not about being skinny, it is a way of dealing with other things depression often goes hand in hand with eating disorders eating disorders are very dangerous and often times lead to death people suffering from bulimia are harder to detect because they normally are of a normal weight to slightly overweight one type of eating disorder is overexercising one can stop menstruating due to an eating disorder many eating disorders go unnoticed by family members there are some websites out they (pro-ana pro-mia) who give tips and support eating disorders once someone develops an eating disorder, they usually draw away from people and the things they used to like, being consumed with their disorder an eating disorder is similar to other addictions and can be just as powerful to overcome
There are many possible causes of an eating disorder such as anorexia. There is no one reason. Often, many causes join together and lead to the eating disorder. Some common causes are.... * Peer pressure / social pressures * Media influences * Low self-esteem * Dieting gone too far * Influence / imitation of a family member / friend with an eating disroder * Depression * OCD * BDD (Body Dismorphic Disorder) Some theories exist stating that there may be a genetic or internal cause or link, but nothing in this has been conclusively studied.
Despite what friends and family may say, eating disorders are not a "phase", or a sign of attention. An eating disorder is a true condition that requires medical and professional treatment. A general practitioner and psychiatrist are needed to tackle and solve the root of the eating disorder, then help someone affected with it from relapsing back into it or managing it as best as possible.
Have get together's with family, while eating, and telling funny stories.
