I think it's actually ear wax....I had an ear infection and sinus infection...somebody told me to use mix of hydrogen peroxide and olive oil in ear and all this stuff came out of my ear through my nose....I did this for about a week and I feel so good after months of having one blocked sinus and clogged ear...the two go together because when you blow hard the pressure builds us in the ear and the wax stays stuck...trust me this works! I was on antiobiotics three different times and it just made it worse. Besides if you try this...it's all natural and it can't hurt.

Is a sinus infection contageous?

it is very hard to catch it, someone would have to take their mucus from the sinus and olace it in your sinus cavity. (which lets face it, who would do something like that) Then it is not certain you would catch it if your immune response system is strong, so even though you are exposed to it, you wpuldnt neccessarily catch it

What causes hard mucus build up in the morning?

I think what possibly causes mucas build up especially first thing in the morning is eating foods and consuming drinks which contain dairy products. Drinking plenty of water will alleviate the affects and make the mucas thinner.

Can a sinus infection make it hard for you to breath?

In general nasal congestion is associated with sinus infections. There can also be a lot of post nasal drip. These can make breathing through the nose difficult and can make you choke as well. Having said this, shortness of breath is more often associated with lower respiratory infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia.

Does mucus make breathing hard?

Yes

Why do we have boogers?

All of our mucus membranes produce a (typically slimy) protective substance called, oddly enough, mucus. One of the several purposes of this substance is to 'catch' airborne contaminants. The old mucus from lung and sinus membranes is disposed and with it the contaminants are expelled - most (I think) gets swallowed, some spit out or blown out the nose. Some thickens (with trapped contaminants and/or gets dehydrated) and becomes uncomfortable hard or sticky deposits in the nose. Mucus in the lungs or throat does not generally get dehydrated because the environment stays moister than the outer nasal passages.

What does it mean when your snot is blue?

Clear snot is straight mucus, which is the secretion of the mucus glands of the nasal cavity. This is normal, and everyone should have a small amount of clear snot on a regular basis - this is what traps the large dust particles and keeps them out of your lungs. Green and yellow snot is mucus mixed with dead inflammatory cells; the color is hard to correlate with a particular inflammatory cell, as the majority of them will be dead neutrophils. Colored snot tends to indicate an infection in the nasal cavity, although a slight yellow color to snot can be normal. Snot changing colors from clear to green to yellow means you were free of infection, then you had an upper respiratory infection, then it was cleared up by your body's defenses.
