One opinion

Well if you have a cold sore, that is a form of herpes and you should get it checked out.

I don't want to scare you but I've all these symptoms in my research on HIV/AIDS....have this checked immediately?!

Another opinion

There is a problem in logic with this reply which I believe could lead to unnecessary fear.

The fact that these three symptoms may appear in HIV and AIDS does NOT mean that if you have them, you have a good chance of having one of these. There are many other, far less serious conditions that have these symptoms. You are unlikely to have HIV or AIDS (especially if you are not in a high-risk group.)

Naturally, get it checked sooner rather than later because there is clearly something wrong that needs treatment.

What are the different types of mouth ulcers and how can they be distinguished from one another?

There are three main types of mouth ulcers: canker sores, cold sores, and oral thrush. Canker sores are small, painful sores inside the mouth, while cold sores are fluid-filled blisters on the lips or around the mouth. Oral thrush appears as white patches on the tongue and inside the cheeks. These ulcers can be distinguished by their location, appearance, and symptoms.

No, mouth ulcers are not the same as oral herpes. Mouth ulcers, also known as canker sores, are small open sores that occur inside the mouth, while oral herpes is an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus, typically manifesting as cold sores on the lips or mouth.

What is worse flu or swollen glands?

That is hard to answer because you are comparing a disease, influenza (or "flu"), to a symptom, swollen glands. There are many diseases and disorders that can cause swollen glands. Swollen glands are mostly an indication that your immune system is reacting to an infection or inflammation of some kind. Furthermore, the outcome of the flu vs. that of swollen glands can vary quite a bit. Most of the time, flu is just a slightly more uncomfortable inconvenience than is a common cold (both flu and colds can cause swollen glands). On the other hand, approximately 36,000 people in the US die from the flu every year (elderly people are more vulnerable). So, flu can be worse than swollen glands in this scenario. Mumps is one of the diseases that can cause swollen glands, and although it is usually not that serious in children, it is often very dangerous for adults. Mononucleosis causes swollen glands, which is an even more serious disease if untreated. And toward the worst end of the scale, leukemia ("blood cancer") can cause swollen glands as a symptom. And approximately 22,000 deaths in the United States are attributed to only one of several types of leukemia in a year. It almost comes down to a toss of the coin of which is worse and depends on how "worse" is measured.
