Due to the fact that nurses are members of that special class of first responders that includes police and fire workers, there are provision in law that allow an RN to work almost indenfinately when responding to a disaster. This rarely occurs, and requires a legal declaration of trauma or disaster. For normal work, RN's typically work five days, 8 hours per, or four days 10 hours per, but special arrangements not uncommonly arise. I have a friend who workds three 12-hour days and takes the next four off. From a staffing context, it's considered unwise to have nursing staff work more than perhaps 10 hours per day.
