I f the wound re-opened, or dehisced, and it was a significant opening, it may need packing w/ a gauze type dressing or another type of dressing. If the wound would be very shallow, it could probably just be covered w/ a dressing instead of packed. The purpose of packing a deeper wound is so that it heals from the bottom up rather than the skin closing over the wound that is still open underneath. That would allow an abcess to form (not good). Whenever an incision opens like that, the MD needs to be notified so he/she can determine the plan of care.
Stitches and staples are two methods by which a wound may be closed.
it depends on how deep the wound is. normally they will use stitches if the wound is small and deep but they use staples if the wound is bigger but not as deep. also staples are newer and supposed to be less painful then stitches. it also depends on where your wound is. normally they staple wounds on the head and stitch on your limbs. hope this helped?
If you have surgical staples coming out of your skin, it's important to contact your healthcare provider immediately. They can assess the situation to determine if the staples need to be removed or if there's an underlying issue, such as infection or improper healing. Do not attempt to remove the staples yourself, as this could lead to complications. Always follow your doctor's advice for wound care and recovery.
Staples are thin pieces of metal that are placed with a stapling device through the edges of a wound to hold it closed.
It is, however, more difficult to correctly align the edges of a wound for stapling, and staples generally cost more than sutures.
Staples used to close a scalp wound after a head injury typically remain in place for about 7 to 14 days, depending on the specific case and the doctor's recommendation. They are usually removed during a follow-up appointment once the wound has sufficiently healed. It's important to follow the healthcare provider's instructions regarding care and removal to ensure proper healing.

Yes, it's normal for a head wound with staples to develop a scab as part of the healing process. Scabbing helps protect the wound from infection and promotes healing. Just make sure to keep the area clean and avoid picking at the scab. If you notice any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge, consult your healthcare provider.
The thread are sutures used to close the skin over a wound. These will be removed after a period of time when it has healed or will dissolve itself.
