When can you leave the hospital after having surgery on your knee?

If you have arthoscopy surgery you leave pretty much as soon as you wake up, unless your not feeling well and the most 2 hours.

If its a open knee surgery much longer but they still dont keep you in overnight unless something serious happens.

It depends on the type of heart surgery you are having. The most common is coronary artery bypass surgery. It also depends on how sick you are BEFORE surgery. Many people who have heart surgery are in very poor health before they have surgery, and they tend to stuggle and stay in the hosptial longer. A healthy active person might go home in 3 or 4 days. An unhealthy person in poor physical shape might take a week to 10- days. Smokers tend to stay in longer because they cannot be weaned from oxygen as easilty, for example. Then it depends if you have a complications. Complicaitons such as A Fib, stroke, renal failure, infection, or retained fluid in the chest (for example from chest tube clogging and poor drainage) can lead to a longer hosptial stay. In many cases the hospital is paid the same if you go home quickly or stay, so they want to figure out a way to keep you healthy can get home quickly without complicatons.
