Yes, depending on what is causing the infection, but you shouldn't take penicillin unless it is absolutly nessercery. The reason being is that when you use strong antibiotics the germs are not longer penicilin naive and become tollerant to antibiotics so the next time you will need a higher dose and the symptoms will get worse and worse every time you get a chest infection.
