Can you get a medical marijuana license as a military dependent?

Wish I knew too. I'm a military dependent and my guess is probably 'no'. I'm afraid to ask Tricare, not that they need to fund it... but they would know if it has been approved. I suppose I could try to call them just to see their reaction. That would be a start. If they get short with me on the phone and become disrespectful, I'll know right away that it's not common enough to pursue it further.

1) Your card is not recognized by the Federal Government. The Army is part of the Federal Government. Thus, the Army will not respect that card. Therefore you might not want them to know about that card, since they may punish or penalize you for having it since it suggests use of what they would still consider illegal drugs.

[ Now, the California National Guard might seem like an interesting environment in this case, but I would venture to say that they follow the Army way of doing business, and that you still fall under the UCMJ- the military's legal system inside of which you have reduced rights and added responsibilities].

2) To join the Army smoothly with no waivers required, you would need a clean criminal record/background investigation. If you have any criminal records or are deemed a security risk in light of evidence that you may have committed a crime or used drugs, you will need to submit a waiver and get it approved. Whether a waiver is approved depends on the conditions and also the level of clearance (top secret, secret, etc.) that you hope to get (and the job you want to do).

3) In any case, there is no way you can bring the card into the Army healthcare system and use it in any way, shape, or form. Having any diagnosis that would require treatment with cannabis would automatically make you a person who is probably unfit for duty in the Armed Forces (such as the inability to cope with stress on your own, cancer, glaucoma, etc.)

4) People over many generations have been choosing between alcohol or drugs and a career in the military, making their choice well before entering. You might want to get clear in your head what you want to do with your life, and then do it. You can't head into a world of harsh reality if you aren't ready to cope with it on your own, although many soldiers medicate themselves with alcohol. You should use weight lifting or sprints to burn off stress.

Probably not. If you have a disability that requires you to use medical marijuana then it's a disability that will excuse you from duty.
